EDITOR:
The recent approval of a liquor license for a Summerside barber shop seems to set a precedent as far as what other type of businesses might qualify. A few possibilities come to mind: how about funeral homes, for example? Having a few drinks used to be a common practice at Irish wakes after all.
What about other places where you have to sit around and wait such as doctors’ offices, Canadian Tire, etc. I’m sure you can think of others, but you can see where I’m going here. I mean, where does it stop?
A barber shop wouldn’t be on my list, though. My sole purpose in going there is to get a haircut, not to imbibe or socialize. Usually, I’m in and out within 15 minutes.
An article in the Feb. 13th issue of The Guardian quotes the aforementioned Humble Barber as saying that his reason for wanting a liquor license is to provide a better value and a better experience.
Although he means well for his customers, it’s hard for me to see how a better value would apply. No doubt improving his bottom line is the main reason.
