EDITOR:

It’s an absolute disgrace that three nests of hatchlings were inhumanely destroyed. Who gave the OK on this cruel act.

Why weren’t the nests removed before the baby birds hatched? How were they killed - sprayed with poison; incinerated alive?

I don’t think anyone wants to know the horrible details. You can bet it was done during store closure. If customers were present, there would have been an outrage of anger, disbelief and horror.

Let’s do a turnaround story.

Lucy, the beloved duck who nested at Superstore garden centre for years. She was treated with respect, love and kindness, so much so that when it came time for Lucy and her young to leave the nest, they were safely escorted across University Avenue while all traffic was stopped.

Two stories, two garden centres, two completely different outcomes.

The first: A complete disregard, disrespect and horrific ending for three nests of baby birds, living creatures who inhabit this earth.

The second: One of love, respect and compassion for the creatures who inhabit the planet.

The act of inhumane killing of baby birds didn’t even receive a slap on the fingers.

The Migratory Birds Convention Act and the provincial Wildlife Conservation Act need to be reviewed and changes made to keep crimes like this from happening again.

The baby birds did not deserve the horrific ending they got and someone should be held accountable.

Which garden centre will you support?

Souris
