CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Charlottetown’s public works manager is recommending signalized intersection upgrades at Kent and Great George streets and Kent and Prince streets.
These signals are quite old and outdated, with newer technologies in locations that meet standards.
The standards state that the primary consideration for signal face placement, aiming and adjustment shall be to optimize the visibility of signal indications to approaching traffic. When approaching these intersections, the lights aren’t always visible, sometimes blocked by vehicles or they blend in with the surrounding buildings.
A design for new signals would need to be carried out by a consulting firm. Once a design and construction costs estimates are received, the information will be brought back to the public works committee for further review.
