CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – A&W restaurants across the nation, including both Prince Edward Island locations, are hosting their 10th annual Burgers to Beat MS campaign today.

$2 from every Teen Burger sold will go to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada towards the fight to end MS. The restaurants in Charlottetown and Summerside will also collect donations for the MS Society.

The money will be used for research, programs and services, and advocacy efforts that improve the quality of life for Canadians living with and affected by the disease. The campaign has raised $11 million in the first nine years. This year’s goal is $2 million.

On average, 11 Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day and women are three times more likely than men to be diagnosed with MS.

Christine Sinclair, a two-time Olympic bronze medallist and Canadian women’s national soccer team captain, is involved in the program.

“My mom living with MS is something I’ve dealt with my entire life,” says Sinclair. “Through Burgers to Beat MS, I believe I have an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of Canadians who are living with MS. My ultimate goal is that other people won’t have to go through what my family has had to experience.”
