CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The P.E.I. Progressive Conservatives have released another discussion paper, this time aimed at opening a dialogue with Island youth about programs and services that affect them.
Opposition leader James Aylward says he’s been listening to the “hopes and frustrations” of youth about creating opportunities to retain them in the province.
The PC party discussion paper focuses on a variety of topics and suggestions that have been brought forward, including:
- Improving foundational supports for youth and families, including an independent Child Advocate
- Strengthened mental health supports that meet the needs of youth
- Building a competitive edge for public schools and post-secondary education systems through enhanced curriculum and apprenticeship options
- Opportunities for post-graduation employment and entrepreneurship on P.E.I. through targeted incentives and micro-grant financing
- Promoting greater democratic participation through innovations like online voting
Aylward said he hopes the paper serves as a starting point for a broader conversation that empowers Island youth.

This is the second discussion paper released by Aylward, the first being related to reforming the legislature.
