A P.E.I. man with a lengthy criminal record was recently sentenced to more jail time after stealing from three Charlottetown businesses.

Wilfred Kenneth Ellis, 38, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown twice in recent weeks where he was sentenced for eight offences, including three thefts.

Douglas sentenced him to a total of five months in jail, and during one of the recent court appearances said that Ellis was getting close to turning 40, which should have been enough incentive to turn his life around.

“The time has come. It’s long overdue,” Douglas said.

The court heard Ellis stole from a Superstore, a convenience store and a clothing store in Charlottetown.

He also didn’t go to the jail one weekend while he was serving an intermittent sentence on an unrelated matter.

The court heard Ellis’s urine screens continued to test positive for drugs, and he owes more than $18,000 in fines and fees.

Douglas gave Ellis credit of one month for time already spent in custody, leaving him four months left to serve.

Ellis will be on probation for 18 months and must pay $312.27 in restitution.
