Tourism P.E.I. has issued a call for an event that will draw visitors to the province in the May and June shoulder season.
The winning proposal would begin in 2019 and would be considered a spring season signature event.
“We have many excellent examples of events and activities we support that are generating visits in what were otherwise slower times for the industry,” Tourism Minister Chris Palmer said. “We think a large-scale springtime event or activity could help bring additional visitors to the Island during the early part of the year.”
The province is looking for something that would bring a high ratio of off-Island visitors, create wide exposure and ideally offer benefits for rural P.E.I. in the spring season.
“Extending visitor experiences into the typically slower times of the year is a welcome step toward a year-round tourism product,” said Tourism Industry Association president Robert Jourdain.
