An off-duty member of the RCMP contacted the East Prince Detachment Thursday, shortly after midnight, to advise that he was following a vehicle on Route 1, near Tryon, and believed that the driver may be impaired.
Later, the off-duty officer indicated that the driver failed to navigate a turn and ended up driving his vehicle into the ditch.
Shortly after the vehicle went into the ditch, officers arrived and arrested a 53-year-old man from Tryon for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
The driver later provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit.
The man is scheduled to appear in Summerside Provincial Court on Feb.1 to answer to charges of impaired driving.
