Murray Harbour residents won’t have to worry about detours while workers are rebuilding their bridge.

A temporary bridge and sewer line will be put in place to accommodate traffic while work is being done, which should start around mid-July.

Bridge engineer Neil Lawless presented the plan for the bridge replacement at a public meeting in the community center on Thursday, April 12.

The public had some concerns, he said.

“There were some requests to make it visually appealing. We’re looking at putting decorative lights in to complement the harbor lights.”

He’s working with the community to make that happen, but it isn’t his main focus, he said.

“Our main stance is the bridge has to support traffic and meet the bridge code.”

Overall, there’s been a positive response to the plan, Lawless said.

“It’s all good news.”

By Dec. 21, traffic should be switched over to the new bridge, and the temporary bridge will be removed later around February, Lawless said.

The project is estimated to cost $2.5 million.
