An 18-year-old man who broke into boats at the Charlottetown Yacht Club won’t spend any more time in jail after getting credit for time served.
Joshua John Young Betts appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown Tuesday for sentencing after pleading guilty to two counts of break and enter and committing an offence, and breaching his probation.
On Oct. 3, Young Betts broke into boats at the yacht club and caused damage that included cutting up some cushions.
He spent the time between his arrest on Oct. 3 and his sentencing in custody.
Douglas gave Young Betts concurrent sentences of 45 days in jail leaving him nothing left on his sentence after credit for time served.
Young Betts will be on probation for 18 months and was heading to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after court for a 28-day mental health assessment.
Douglas ordered him to write apology letters to the boat owners and banned Young Betts from the yacht club for eight months.
Young Betts must also pay $300 in victim surcharges.
