A P.E.I. woman who said she stole items from a grocery store because she was struggling to get by was given a suspended sentence Thursday.
Jacklyn Elizabeth Laybolt, 22, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where she pleaded guilty to the theft.
The court heard Laybolt went to a Superstore in Charlottetown, put items in her purse and left.
Store security stopped Laybolt and recovered the stolen items that had a value of $40.47.
Laybolt will be on probation for nine months, during which time she is banned from the Superstore.
She must also pay a $100 victim surcharge.
