City police won’t be allowing people to move about the downtown core on golf carts this year.

Charlottetown Police Services had received a request from Downtown Charlottetown Inc. (DCI) with regard to the potential to use eight passenger transporter golf carts to move visitors in the city in areas around Founders’ Hall, Queen Street and Prince Street.

DCI describes the carts as road-worthy but, at the present time, the province will not license this type of low-speed vehicle to operate on roadways.

After some discussion with the protective and emergency services committee, the police department decided not to support the use of golf carts on city roadways.
