GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. – A Morell man who was caught driving drunk after a street dance ended in Morell was sentenced Thursday to three days in jail.

Paul Reginald MacKinnon, 47, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Georgetown where he pleaded guilty to failing the breathalyzer.

The court heard that on July 21 at around 3:30 a.m. the RCMP arrested MacKinnon after the Morell street dance ended.

MacKinnon later provided breathalyzer samples that were above the legal limit.

On Thursday, MacKinnon told the court he wasn’t aware at the time that he was impaired.

“I’m very sorry for making such a mistake,” he said.

Along with the jail time, MacKinnon must pay a $1,000 fine and a $300 victim surcharge.

He is banned from driving for one year.
