CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Mallard Forestry Equipment Inc. has been awarded the tender to supply the City of Charlottetown with speed humps.
Mallard submitted the low bid of $36,759.52 (taxes included), beating out bids by Sojourn Signs, HD Supply and Construction Signs Ltd.
Public works issued the tender but it will be Charlottetown Police Services that will make the decision as to where the humps are placed.
“There’s been a number of concerns from other councillors (to slow) traffic down on certain streets. Police can’t be everywhere all the time so there’s certain streets people will be asking for and police will look at those streets and determine whether that’s the street that speed humps will go down on,’’ said Coun. Terry Bernard, chairman of the city’s public works committee, adding no specific streets have been identified yet.
The city had planned to spend roughly $50,000 on the speed humps and signage warning of the devices.
