Environment Canada is predicting a wet weekend for the Island with mostly rain to the east and mostly snow to the west but slight changes in the storm track could turn it into a nor’easter snow storm.

“Precipitation associated with this system is currently expected to begin as rain for the island Saturday afternoon, changing over to snow Saturday night and then back to rain or snow on Sunday as the system passes through the Gulf of St. Lawrence,” says Environment Canada’s weather statement.

“However, a change in the track of this system could affect the precipitation type and accumulations. Strong northeasterly winds may also develop on Sunday giving the potential for higher than normal water levels for exposed coastal regions of the province.
“The public is advised to monitor subsequent forecasts and statements as warnings may be issued as new information becomes available” says the national forecaster.

It could bring upwards of 20 centimeters of snow by Sunday in Prince County, less, maybe up 5 to 10 centimetres in Kings County.

For today, however, it looks like a gentle mix of sun and cloud with light southwest wind.

The Confederation Bridge today is currently open to all traffic with no wind warnings.
