A man who hauled out a golf club in a violent attempt at retribution will now get a chance to relax in jail.

Chief Provincial Court Judge Nancy Orr sentenced Justin Charles Brown, 20, of Cornwall to seven days in jail for possessing a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.

Brown pleaded guilty to using the golf club to smash a window of a car that had two occupants that he knew.

The driver of the car had already been charged with stealing from Brown.

Orr said Brown must not take the law into his own hands.

“We have police officers,’’ she told the man. “We pay them out of our taxes for a reason.’’

The judge told Brown “this type of behaviour is not acceptable.’’

Orr also sentenced Brown to serve seven days for causing damage to property.

The two sentences are to be served together at the same time.

Brown is also prohibited from possessing any firearm or other form of prohibited weapon for 10 years.
