The victim of Wednesday’s single-vehicle crash in Mount Tryon has been identified as Mya Rose Arsenault, 17, of Rustico.

Arsenault, a student at Bluefield High School, is the daughter of Michael and Carolyn. She is survived by her grandfathers, aunts and uncles and numerous cousins and friends.

A funeral mass will be held Monday, Sept. 10, at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Rustico, at 10:30 a.m.

The crash occurred around 5:50 p.m. in Mount Tryon. Arsenault was a passenger in the vehicle, while the three other occupants were transported to Prince County Hospital in Summerside with minor injuries.

An RCMP traffic analyst attended the scene, and the investigation is still on-going to determine the cause of the crash.

Thursday was the first day of classes at Bluefield, and principal Stephen Wenn said supports were in place throughout the day, as they will be today. Those include a crisis intervention team from the Public Schools Branch and a student well-being team from the Department of Education, which are available to support students and staff.

Wenn sent an email to the community Thursday outlining supports that were in place at the school and suggestions for how parents can speak with students about the tragedy at home.

“It’s tragic … and as a community we’re going to pull together and get through this,” said Wenn.
