All Provincial Civil Service offices Island wide have now been declared closed Island wide.
The RCMP is asking Islanders to please stay off the road.
Environment Canada has extended its blizzard warning to all of P.E.I. but Prince County is expected to receive the worst of this storm, including warnings for possible ice rafting up on shore during high tide.
A special weather statement was also issued for a storm-surge warning expected in the Gulf of St. Lawrence this afternoon.
Environment Canada says an intense low-pressure system near Halifax will move to lie over the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The combination of high water levels and strong northerly winds may cause ice to raft and push onshore, mainly for north-facing coastlines. The highest risk is for Prince County.
The Confederation Bridge restricted high-sided vehicle traffic due to wind conditions as of 3:20 p.m. Thursday. The public will be advised once the situation changes.
The City of Charlottetown's public works department will again begin clearing snow earlier than usual tonight.
Residents are advised that leaving their vehicles on city streets between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. could risk being ticketed or towed by police.
Canada post issued the following notice Thursday:
"Red alert: Mail delivery interrupted
February 16, 2017: In light of the severe weather conditions throughout Prince Edward Island, it is not safe to send our delivery agents to deliver mail today.
"Delivery will resume once conditions improve and it is safe to do so."
Island Waste Managment Corporation also halted garbage pick up service.
It said:
"All cart and blue bag collections scheduled for Thursday, February 16 are cancelled.
There will be no alternate collection."
It offers some suggestions HERE for any cart overflow this might cause.
There is no salting or sanding as crews work only on main roads in Prince County, not on secondary roads at all.
The snow has not really started in Kings County yet.
