Coun. Mitchell Tweel paid tribute to Vegas Golden Knights’ head coach G‎erard Gallant and assistant coach Mike Kelly at council’s meeting on Monday.

The expansion Knights made it all the way to the Stanley Cup final before succumbing to the Washington Capital in five games.

Tweel praised the Island ambassadors for an outstanding and remarkable season and playoff achievement.

“For a first-year team, both of these gentlemen made all Islanders very proud,’’ Tweel said. “Their humble and hard-working approach to every practice, and every game during the season and Stanley Cup playoff final run will always be remembered.

“Their unparalleled achievement will go down in NHL history as one of the most incredible accomplishments for a first-year expansion team. Congratulations to both Gerard Gallant and Mike Kelly.’’
