BORDEN-CARLETON,PE - Third time is definitely the charm for Corrine Birch.
The 64-year-old, Borden-Carleton woman has won $100,000 from a $10 crossword scratch ticket.
“I checked the ticket three times and went to the store. The clerk asked me how much I thought I won and I told him ‘what I think isn’t going to show up,’ so I sat at the counter while he called Moncton,” said Birch.
But this wasn’t the first time Birch won money from a crossword scratch ticket.
“The first time I won, I won $10,000 off a $3 ticket and the second time I won $30,000.”
She added, “I don’t have much luck with 649 so I don’t waste anything on that.”
With her first win, Birch bought a lawn tractor with a snow blower and the second time she traded in her car.
“This time, I’m pre-arranging my funeral. I thought it would be a good way to take the burden off my two daughters. I thought, ‘I’m 64 years old, this is a good idea,’” she said.
Before this most recent win, Birch worked at the potato inspection plant in Borden-Carleton until it closed.
“Before this win, I was going to be living on $350 a month. Now I don’t have to worry about it.”
Birch, a homebody, doesn’t plan on using the money to travel.
“I’m a plain Jane. I like to be home. I’m not a traveller.”
