The officers, Const. Mike Jones, Const. Ricky MacLeod and Const. Travis Turner, all recently left their employment in Summerside for new opportunities with the Cape Breton Regional Police Force. All three are originally from Cape Breton.

Turner, a part-time officer here, was hired in December 2014, while MacLeod and Jones were full-time members, hired in February 2012 and June 2014 respectively.

Cpl. Jennifer Driscoll of the Summerside Police Service said it is an oddity for the service to lose three officers all at once, especially to have them all heading to the same place.

“It’s not something that would happen regularly,” said Driscoll.

“I think it was just a matter of timing. The Cape Breton Regional Police was hiring at this time, a number of officers, and these guys happened to be from Cape Breton.”

The three officers will be missed, added Driscoll but their former colleagues here wish them luck.

“It’s kind of sad for us, they’re three really great guys,” she added.

Summerside Police Service is currently in the hiring process to refill the positions vacated by the officers.
