Kinkora Regional High and Three Oaks Senior High are the only two P.E.I. finalists in the Staples Canada Superpower Your School contest.
They are among 100 schools across the country that have advanced to the second round of the contest, which recognizes elementary and secondary schools helping the environment through eco-programs.
The second round of judging will select 10 schools from five regions to receive a $25,000 prize. The final 10 winning schools announced April 22.
Supercharge Your School is now in its seventh year and is held in collaboration with Earth Day Canada.
This year, more than 700 entries were received from schools across Canada.
“It’s been amazing to see the level of innovation and creative thinking happening in our schools,” said Deb Doncaster, president of Earth Day Canada.
“The next generation of environmental leaders are very dedicated to the cause, and they’re ready to take action now.”
