A homeowner on the Appin Road in Bonshaw arrived home Saturday afternoon to find a man inside with an armload of stolen goods.
"After a brief physical confrontation, the accused ran from the residence to his vehicle parked nearby where he managed to flee the scene," said an RCMP report issued today.
The thief took off in his own vehicle at a high rate of speed, eventually losing control and causing an accident with another vehicle on the road, said the report.
"Thankfully the motorist struck was not harmed but the vehicle sustained damage," said the report.
After the collision, the thief again took off but was intercepted by Queens District RCMP in New Haven.
The accused man, age 43, from Charlottetown, was on parole at the time of these crimes. He is facing charges of break and enter plus failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
He is now in jail, scheduled to make an appearance in provincial court on June 8.
