The 42nd annual P.E.I. Source for Sports Spud Minor Hockey Tournament has attracted teams from around the region. It is billed as the largest AAA tournament in the province with 73 teams, in five age divisions from novice to midget.

A walk Friday down the hallways outside the dressing rooms in the MacLauchlan Arena was fascinating as teams in full gear made their way to the ice for their games as other teams came back to their dressing rooms.

By judging the demeanor of the players, an observer could pretty much tell who was winning and who was losing that particular game.

The hallways were also filled with players waiting their turn for dressing room space so they could suit up for their games. Players used this time to tape their sticks and check their gear while others took their skates down to Jamie Frizzell to have them sharpened.

If anyone in the arena knows skate sharpening it’s Frizzell, who has been plying his trade for more than 30 years.
