Summerside police charged two people with impaired driving over the weekend, and issued a roadside suspension to a third.
Just after midnight Saturday, officers on patrol noticed a vehicle travelling in the downtown area at a high rate of speed and crossing over the centre line. The vehicle was pulled over on Granville Street near Victoria Road.
The driver, a 23-year-old Summerside man, displayed signs of alcohol impairment and was subjected to a roadside test. The driver allegedly failed the test and was arrested for impaired driving.
Police say he later provided breath samples in excess of the legal blood-alcohol limit and will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
At around 2:10 a.m. Saturday, officers were called to the area of a Granville Street convenience store for a report of a driver suspected of being impaired.
The man left the scene before police arrived, but the vehicle was located a few minutes later on Heather Moyse Drive.
The driver, a 36-year-old California resident, allegedly failed a roadside screening test and was arrested for impaired driving.
Police say he provided breath samples over the legal limit and was released from custody after posting bond. The man will appear in court at a later date to face impaired driving charges.
Just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday, police stopped a vehicle for having the wrong licence plate attached.
Officers noted the driver appeared to have been drinking and administered a roadside test that resulted in the driver’s license being suspended for seven days.
The driver, a 63-year-old Cornwall man, was also charged with offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
