Stratford homeowner offering 'James Bond' car with real-estate listing

STRATFORD, P.E.I. – Looking for a home with a view? A house in Stratford that went on the market Wednesday certainly offers vistas of Charlottetown Harbour from the back, but it may be the view of the driveway that catches the eye of prospective buyers.

A listing on Kelly Lantz’s Century 21 website features a home at 20 Battery Point Rd. in Stratford. In a unique twist, the price of the listing also includes the Maserati pictured in the driveway.

That’s because, along with the property on Battery Point Drive, the homeowner has also listed his 2005 Maserati Coupe Cambiocorsa as part of the sale.

“It’s an amazing house, for one thing,” said Kelly Lantz, the realtor for the property and car, which are listed at nearly $1.3 million.

“Then you throw in this James Bond kind of car … I thought it was a great idea. It adds something a little extra, and anything extra gets people’s attention.”

The home itself was built in 1989 and is 3,872 square feet with four bedrooms and four bathrooms.

While her client wants to remain anonymous, Lantz said the current owner has a background in sales and marketing, and thought the luxury Italian sports car would make a nice selling point.

It also helped that he wasn’t emotionally attached to the Maserati, said Lantz.

She said house shoppers sometimes privately request a vehicle be included with a sale, especially if they move from out of province, but a homeowner listing the vehicle publicly was a first for her.

While it may not be the most exotic enticement she’s ever seen added to a home sale, Lantz said it’s definitely the most exotic car she’s seen offered.

New, a Maserati Coupe could run you more than US$80,000. The Blue Book value of a 2005, however, is more in the $15-25,000 range, depending on the condition.

So far, the added bonus for the Stratford seller seems to be paying off.

Lantz said the typical home listing will be viewed online a couple of hundred times in it’s first one or two days.

The Battery Point Drive house was already viewed more than 5,300 times in just 24 hours.

“The market is strong in P.E.I. this year,” she said, “so every little bit helps.”
