The affected residents have tested positive as carriers of the bacteria, but are remaining otherwise healthy at this time. Appropriate precautions are being taken to ensure the bacteria does not spread to other residents.

This is the second senior’s facility to report seeing a spike in cases of MRSA. Earlier this week, Beach Grove Home in Charlottetown began limiting visitors after five residents of that home tested positive for the superbug.

Everyone entering the Garden Home, including visitors, are asked to clean their hands before and after entering a resident’s room, and upon entering and leaving the facility. MRSA is most commonly spread by direct and indirect contact via the hands.

More information is available at the Garden Home for any families who may have relatives residing there.

An official with the Garden Home said staff team are collaborating with the chief public health office and will continue to assess the situation.

A further update will be provided.
