CAVENDISH, P.E.I. - Some safety changes were prompted at Shining Waters Family Fun Park following an incident earlier this month.
A park guest was not fully seated while riding the Buccaneer Bay Bullet Roller-Coaster on July 9, and the ride safety system was engaged.
The safety system stops all ride functions, including the lift which takes riders up the ride in the roller-coaster.
As a result of the roller-coaster train stopping, the guest fell back. The guest was removed by a bystander prior to management reaching the scene.
The coaster train was then retracted to the loading zone and other guests were removed from the ride.
“We are thankful that (there) were no injuries,” wrote Matthew Jelley, president of Shining Waters Family Fun Park, in a media statement.
The ride remained closed that evening.
Upon reviewing the incident, two changes were implemented to the ride to further ensure safety. Guests between 42 inches and 48 inches in height must now be accompanied by a rider over 48 inches tall.
The ride will also only operate one lap of the track per cycle instead of the previous two laps with a break in between.
Prior to the ride re-opening, the provincial ride inspector attended the park on July 10 to review the incident.
All ride systems were thoroughly reviewed and inspected prior to the ride re-opening.
“We are sorry for the concern and stress that this incident caused to the individuals involved,” wrote Jelley.
