Nichole Hickox wasn’t happy when she saw a Mountie talking to a group of kids playing street hockey in Cornwall.
She changed her mind when the officer picked up a stick and started playing too.
“It put a smile on my face to see him join in without any motive behind it, other than just a good game of ball hockey and fun with the kids,” she said.
That officer was Const. Bob Honkoop who Hickox said spent about half an hour with the kids on Saturday.

Hickox thought Honkoop was going to give the kids a hard time for playing near the road and parked vehicles.
Instead, she caught some of the game on video and snapped a few pictures as Honkoop, who was in uniform and on duty at the time, stickhandled the ball, ran around with the kids and tried to score.
Honkoop even took some good-natured ribbing, Hickox said, as the kids called him an old man and joked about his hockey skills.
When the game was over, Honkoop let the kids see the inside of the cruiser and showed them its lights and sirens.
“It definitely made mine and my daughter’s day,” Hickox said.
RCMP spokesman Cpl. Scott Stevenson said Honkoop’s engagement with the community and the fact he wants to show young people the police aren’t to be feared was wonderful.
“We’re human and we like to have fun as well,” Stevenson said.
Community policing is a goal for the RCMP, Stevenson said and added it’s nice to hear something positive from the community.
“People sometimes don’t get to see us in the good situations. They’re more used to seeing us in more unfortunate circumstances.”
