A complaint was received Wednesday regarding a scam of defrauded money from a youth who thought she was purchasing a ticket for the upcoming Cavendish Beach Music Festival, say the Queens District RCMP.
The Queens District RCMP sent out a press release today saying they are aware that there are ticket and campsite scams ongoing and are alerting the public to be careful of transactions on popular purchasing sites like Kijiji or similar websites.
“These transactions are very difficult to trace back to the offender which often means the buyer is out of pocket without any item delivered,” it said in the press release.
“The scammers usually are from out of country and untraceable making it hard for law enforcement to find the culprits.”
The Queens District RCMP said transactions that seem too good to be true, give you more money than you are asking for or insist on transferring money before getting what you are buying are all signs that the transaction may not be real.
“It is easy to be excited by the prospect of finding that campsite you need or cheaper ticket for the big event but don't let scammers spoil your fun,” it read. “Be careful- be aware.”
