ALBERTON, P.E.I. – Prince District RCMP is promising to provide more information later, but for now is saying there are no public safety concerns following an investigation in Alberton Thursday afternoon.
Police officers blocked off a section of Church Street after 3 p.m. and officers, some carrying rifles, approached a residence.
“We’re still investigating the origin of a call that led us to this residence, but everybody is safe; everybody is accounted for. There are no public safety concerns, no issues for anybody around here to worry about,” Cpl. Al Vincent with West Prince RCMP said at the scene.
He would not disclose the nature of the call but said police would release more information later to explain “to the best of our abilities” what prompted their response.
“We had some of our long weapons in our possession,” he said when asked about the response. “We had them available and ready in the event of…”
He did not finish his sentence.
Officers initially left their vehicles down the street and approached the residence on foot.
“We literally just confirmed what we needed to confirm. We are going to go and straighten a few things out and then we are going to send something out because we know that people have questions.”
At least three police cars and a van responded to the scene. An Island EMS ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were also in the area.
“The key thing is, nobody is injured, everybody is accounted for. There are no public safety concerns, nothing for anybody around here – in the neighbourhood, on the streets, in the community – nothing for anybody to be concerned about,” Vincent reiterated.
