The P.E.I. Writers’ Guild has a new board of directors dedicated to promoting the growth and quality of literary arts on the Island.

Local author and entrepreneur Mo Duffy Cobb was elected as the new president during a recent meeting.

“It’s a great time to be a creative on P.E.I., and our new board members will bring new energy to our work,” said Duffy Cobb. “We’re proud to support the work of all writers on P.E.I. Our membership is ever growing—we’d love to see more industry writers join the guild as well, like journalists, playwrights, and screenwriters.”

After a two-year term, guild president Keith Burgoyne stepped down and is taking on the role of past president.

“It has been an honour and privilege serving the diverse writing community of Prince Edward Island as P.E.I. Writers' Guild president for the past two years,” states Burgoyne. “The passion and dedication of our long-term board members has been inspiring and endlessly fulfilling, and I look forward to serving as a member of the board for the 2018-2019 year."

Bruce McCallum and Cindy Midgley will continue on in their roles as vice president and treasurer, respectfully. New member Sophia Ball will assume the role of secretary.

Members-at-large voted in include Christine Gordon Manley (new), Julie Pellissier-Lush (new), Richard Furlong (staying on), Gillian Mahen (new), Katie Mac (new), Nicole Lewis Kemp (new) and Kelise Danielle MacDonald (new).

The board acknowledged the hard work of the previous board and thanked outgoing members Lorraine Clements, Kathy Birt and Brad Bernard for their dedication and hard work.

The P.E.I. Writers’ Guild facilitates writing workshops throughout the year, as well as the popular open mic nights at Receiver Coffee and other professional development opportunities for local writers. Visit the PEIWG website at Peiwritersguild.com for more information.
