Sarah Stewart-Clark, one of Mothers Helping Mothers’ founders, said P.E.I. has a serious issue of ignoring sexual assaults, child abuse and addictions.
“It is time to face the sobering reality and put meaningful efforts into prevention and treatment for women and children who have been abused,” she said.
Stewart-Clark and Emily Heaney started the group three years ago to offer support to mothers in P.E.I.
More than 4,100 women are members of the group.
Stewart-Clark said there is a mental-health crisis in P.E.I. and the government needs to take action.
“On the surface, there appear to be many supports a woman in crisis can access. But when you actually attempt to navigate those channels, you quickly discover that all roads lead to wait times,” she said.
Mothers Helping Mothers is hosting the two public events where women who have struggled with the current system can share their stories.
The meetings are open to the public and the leaders of every political party in the province have been invited to attend.

March 28 – Murchison Centre in Charlottetown at 7 p.m.
