The Progressive Conservative Party of P.E.I. says it is squarely focused on engaging Islanders.

PC Party leader James Aylward says one of his goals is to reach out and have conversations with Islanders about the policies needed to make the province a more prosperous and progressive society.

“Our policy process will be a grass roots-driven initiative to engage Islanders from all walks of life,’’ Aylward said, noting that Nicole McKenna has agreed to lead the charge by serving as chairwoman of the party’s policy committee.

Born and raised in rural P.E.I., McKenna is a graduate of UPEI and Dalhousie University. Active in her community, McKenna sits on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters P.E.I. and is past provincial chairwoman of the Canadian Bar Association Women Lawyers Firm. McKenna practices law with the firm of Carr Stevenson and MacKay where she is a partner.

McKenna said the policy process will unfold over the next few months and will involve online surveys, jurisdictional scans, town hall meetings and stakeholder consultations culminating in a policy convention where the basis of the party’s platform for the next election will be finalized.

“We are excited to have honest conversations with Islanders and listen to their ideas,’’ McKenna said.
