Adam McQuaid didn’t have to look far to find the love of his life.

The Cornwall native and Boston Bruins defenceman married his fiancé Stephanie Enserink, who is originally from Stratford, P.E.I., in front of family and friends during a ceremony at Charlottetown’s Christian Reformed Church last Friday.

The two had been a couple for about four years prior to the ceremony. Enserink is the daughter of Bill and Krista Enserink while McQuaid is the son of Mark and Dianne McQuaid.

When contacted by The Guardian, Dianne said she was happy for her son and daughter-in-law.

“We’re delighted she’s in our lives, she’s a sweet girl,” said Dianne. “Her roots are here, and she’s close to her family like he is. There’s a lot of commonality, and it’s pretty exciting to know they both have that Island connection.”

McQuaid’s best man was his younger brother, Chad McQuaid, who will be getting married this August, while Enserink’s maid of honour was her sister, Olivia.

About 200 people were invited to the wedding, and a reception held later that evening at the Rodd Crowbush Resort.

Attendees had travelled from throughout the United States and Canada, as well as some of Enserink’s relatives travelling from Holland, to take part in the celebration.

The event also saw representatives from the Bruins organizations, including some of McQuaid’s teammates.

The couple are now honeymooning in Bermuda.

McQuaid, 31, was drafted in 2005 by the Columbus Blue Jackets, but he has been playing with the Bruins since the 2009/2010 season.

He was a key member of the team during its 2011 Stanley Cup win and brought the coveted trophy to his hometown of Cornwall, P.E.I., that summer.
