Philip Alexander Whittaker, 60, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to sexual interference and sexual assault.

With his guilty plea, the Crown stayed nine other charges involving similar allegations related to the same victim.

Whittaker’s case was adjourned until May 3 for sentencing to give time for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

The sexual interference charge dates back to 1991 when the victim was younger than 14, and the sexual assault charge is from an incident in 1993.

At the time, the age of consent in Canada was 14, but it has since changed to 16.

A publication ban prevents the release of any details that could identify the victim.
