The government is asking residents, particularly those in rural areas, to take the survey where they can test the speed of their home or business Internet connection.

The province says it has committed to considering proposals from communities and Internet service providers that would use public land, public infrastructure or public funding to facilitate improved Internet speeds in rural areas.

The data will be used to develop a province wide map showing where speeds most need to be improved, which will help identify what steps should be taken to help rural Islanders acquire the reasonably priced service.

A previous news release stated government would begin to roll out near-universal coverage of 25 mbps Internet speed across the Island “in the coming months.”

The speed test launched Friday at princeedwardisland.ca/internetspeed.
