P.E.I. is getting a new audiologist to fill a vacancy that has led to long waiting lists for patients.

After Opposition MLA Darlene Compton raised the issue in the legislature Wednesday, the province confirmed a new audiologist signed a letter of offer on May 29.

That person will start their permanent, full-time role with the provincial audiology clinic in July.

During question period, Health Minister Robert Mitchell ran through a list of wait times for audiology services, including 120 people waiting for auditory processing disorder assessments.

Another 123 people are waiting for hearing assessments and 42 clients are waiting for auditory brain response assessments.
