P.E.I. Connects will be held on Thursday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jack Blanchard Family Centre, 7 Pond St.

Completely free of charge, the event will provide participants with a hot meal, hygiene products, haircuts, spring clothing and other personal items.

Local service providers will also be there offering blood pressure and blood sugar checks, income tax information, local community services, housing services and other health and wellness services.

“Our aim is to link those in need to essential services all in one location,” said event committee chair Krista Shaw. “We’ve also worked hard to collect donations of spring jackets, clothing and personal items, all of which will be provided free of charge to anyone in attendance.”

Free transportation is available on the T3 Transit service routes for participants.

The P.E.I. Connects event is a spinoff of last year’s Magnet Event, held to assist the P.E.I. Community Advisory Board on Homelessness with the biennial National Point in Time Count.

Information collected through the count provides in-depth information on the homelessness situation in P.E.I. and nationally. It also allows communities to better identify the needs of homeless individuals and provide them with local, tailored supports.
