Organizers of the just concluded “Taking Care of Women’s Business. Period. campaign” are expressing amazement at its success.

A total of 1,439 boxes of feminine hygiene products were collected for P.E.I. food banks in 28 days.

Packages ranging from single count to 100 count per box were among the donations.

Tracey Comeau, the organizer of the campaign, says she is grateful for the outpouring of support.

“Going into the campaign, I really had no expectation relating to number of boxes that would be collected,” says Comeau.

“Now that it is over, I’m feeling rather emotional over some unexpected outcomes, including the local and national exposure it has drawn and the tremendous support from so many groups, associations and individuals, even beyond P.E.I.”

Comeau said she is equally happy for the hundreds of Island women and teens who will benefit directly as a result of the generosity.

“The main goals were to address the current need and create awareness for future donors to food banks.” says Comeau.

“Together, we achieved both goals and I am extremely appreciative.”

Comeau is applauding all donors to the campaign, noting that the collected number averages out to over 50 product donations per day of the campaign.

Distribution of the product to the six food banks across Prince Edward Island is currently underway.

Comeau encourages people to continue to think about feminine hygiene products when giving to their local food bank.
