CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Finance Minister Heath MacDonald will unveil the 2018-2019 provincial budget this Friday morning.

The budget address will begin around 11:30 a.m. in the P.E.I. legislature, at which time budget documents will be made available online at princeedwardisland.ca/budget.

Last year, Premier Wade MacLauchlan’s Liberal government projected a $600,000 surplus for the 2017-18 year, marking the first balanced budget tabled in the P.E.I. legislature in more than a decade.

By the fall, however, the surplus had nearly doubled to $1.1 million. In a fall fiscal update and second-quarter forecast in November, then-Finance minister Allen Roach said revenue is forecast to increase by $23 million, offset by more than $22 million in expenditures for 2017-18.

More later in print and online.
