Admission to the provincial exhibition grounds in Charlottetown will be free for some adults during Old Home Week.

Sandra Hodder Acorn, event manager, said those 19 years of age and older will be granted free admission after 9 p.m. each day.

That means those 18 and under will still be charged regular admission price.

“It’s to allow people to go to the (harness racing) track to wager or to go into Red Shores,’’ Hodder Acorn said, referring to the Charlottetown Driving Park and the casino.

It certainly isn’t hard to tell things are revving up to start on Thursday. The tents are up and most of the rides are ready to go.

Old Home Week runs Aug. 11-20 and is expected to draw more than 90,000 visitors to the grounds.

Hodder Acorn can barely contain her excitement, having gone to the grounds every year growing up.

“When I see the young farmers showing their cattle, I know all this hard work was worth it,’’ she said on Tuesday.
