An Ontario man who came to P.E.I. for Old Home Week left with a bill for more than $6,000 after damaging property in Stratford while he was drunk.

Neeko Mishiale Stein, 18, appeared before Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to three counts of mischief.

On Aug. 16, Stratford RCMP received a call of two men fighting and yelling in the street. At the same time, the RCMP was also getting calls of damage to property in the town.

They found Stein and another man drunk in the middle of the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Stratford Road.

The court heard the damage included Stein kicking a door and its frame, breaking a taillight on a car and throwing a plant pot through a window. Stein told the police he was trying to get away from his friend and caused the damage out of anger.

During his court appearance, Stein apologized to the people whose property he damaged and said he wanted to put the matter behind him.

Before handing down a sentence, Orr said the only comment she could make was that it was an expensive night. She then gave Stein a suspended sentence with two years of probation.

Orr also ordered him to pay more than $6,000 in restitution and he will have to write apology letters to the victims.
