Matthew Douglas Miller, 21, appeared before Judge John Douglas after pleading guilty to causing a disturbance by fighting.
Crown attorney Lisa Goulden told the court that on May 13 at around 1:30 a.m. Charlottetown police responded to a report about several males attacking two people.
When the police arrived, they found one of the complainants had red marks on his face and a bloody nose.
Goulden said he told police he had been punched in the face several times, but hadn’t been doing anything wrong.
Neither group knew each other.
Defence lawyer Thane MacEachern told the court his client acknowledged he was in a fight and Miller said the other group of people was sitting on a bench mouthing off.
Miller will be on probation for one year and must perform 10 hours of community service or pay $10 per hour not performed with the money going to the Charlottetown Boys and Girls Club.
He must also pay a $100 victim surcharge.
