Among the projects receiving funds through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, are upgrades to the Crapaud Community Curling Club, which will get $65,218, and to the Kingston branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, which gets $72,750.
“This support has allowed the branch to expand our renovation to not only include the absolutely necessary, but also items of importance to our members, so that we can continue to fulfill our mission statement," said Kingston legion president Alan Crane. "Organizations like ours are better able to serve our communities thanks to funding programs like CIP 150.”
Wayne Easter, MP for Malpeque, also addressed the gathering at the Kingston Legion Thursday.
“I commend the dedicated community groups being recognized today for their continued efforts to serve their neighbours. They are the building blocks of our communities," Easter said. "As we celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, we honour this tradition, and we work together to create greater opportunity for coming generations. With the support of the Government of Canada through ACOA and CIP 150, I know that these communities will benefit for many years to come.”
The nine projects gettig funding announced Thursday are:
o $72,750 to the Kingston Royal Canadian Legion Branch No 30 for upgrades to the building and facilities;
o $65,218 to the Crapaud Community Curling Club to upgrade facilities;
o $49,358 to the Afton Community Centre Recreation Committee to renovate and upgrade the centre;
o $34,085 to the Town of Cornwall to enhance the trail system and upgrade the skatepark;
o $28,550 to the North River Rural Community Fire Company to upgrade the electrical system and community hall sign;
o $21,219 to the Community of Miltonvale Park to upgrade community park facilities, add game courts and fencing;
o $15,050 to the Community of Brackley to upgrade the Brackley Commons Community Centre parking lot;
o $10,050 to the North River 4H Club for upgrades to the clubhouse in Kingston;
o $8,566 to the Brackley Point Women’s Institute Inc. for upgrades to the Brackley Beach Community Centre and parking area.
