New Brunswick MP Robert Goguen is in Prince Edward Island today to take part in two government announcements in this province.
At 10:30 a.m., Goguen, who is parliamentary secretary for Justice, will participate in a ceremony at Port-La-Joye-Fort Amherst to commemorate the deportation of the French and Acadian inhabitants of the Island in 1758. The deportation will be recognized as an event of national historic significance.
Later today, at 2 p.m., Goguen will appear with P.E.I. Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Ron MacKinley, to make a funding announcement at Raspberry Point Oyster Company in Cavendish.
Goguen is the Conservative member of Parliament for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe and made headlines earlier this month when he asked a witness testifying before the House justice committee whether she would have been worried about her Charter rights if police had been able to rescue her when she was gang raped.

The witness, Timea Nagy, laughed and answered the question, and later reported that Goguen had called her to apologize. Nagy says she wasn’t offended by the question, but there was backlash in social media and in national opinion pieces after the hearing.
