An opposition MLA is calling on the province to market itself as a summer wedding destination.
On Wednesday, Kensington-Malpeque MLA Matthew MacKay said there were more than 900 wedding ceremonies held on P.E.I. last year, and the industry is estimated to be worth as much as $10 million in the province.
MacKay called on the province to run targeted promotions for the industry as it does for other tourism sectors like golf and culinary.
“The wedding sector seems tailor-made to benefit from this approach,” said MacKay, noting there is not a single ad in P.E.I.’s visitor guide promoting itself as a wedding destination.
