SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - A 28-year-old Stratford woman and a 38-year-old Charlottetown man have been arrested and charged following an unusual impaired driving call in Summerside last Friday morning.
Summerside Police Services reported that it received multiple calls about a Ford Escape being driven erratically, driving into oncoming traffic and forcing other cars off the road, in the Water Street east and Granville Street areas of Summerside, around 8:30 a.m.
Police found the suspect vehicle in a Linden Avenue parking lot.
Officers spoke to a woman in the SUV, who said she was the driver. Officers had reason to suspect she may have been under the influence of alcohol, so she was arrested.
However, upon further investigation, police decided to charge the male occupant of the vehicle with impaired driving and refusing a demand from police, as they suspect he was the actual driver.
Police allege he displayed signs of impairment by drugs and he later refused to be examined by a drug recognition expert.
He was turned over to the Charlottetown Police who had a warrant for his arrest.
The woman is facing a charge of obstructing police and will appear in court at a later date.
