Land ownership concerns and allegations that some large corporations are skirting the province’s land ownership limits were raised in question period Thursday.

Opposition MLA Brad Trivers said he’s been hearing from Islanders that more and more land is being purchased by corporations headquartered off-Island.

“Islanders are worried about what that means for the future of our Island,” Trivers said.

He asked government to do some digging to “figure out really what the future of our Island holds when it comes to land ownership.”

Lands Minister Robert Mitchell says he is confident all of P.E.I.’s land ownership rules are being followed appropriately.

“I can guarantee you that currently all land transactions, or all corporations, are within our land-holding limits on Prince Edward Island,” he said.
