Julie McCabe has announced her intention to seek the Ward 9 (Stonepark) seat on Charlottetown city council.

Municipal voters head to the polls on Monday, Nov. 5.

McCabe is the daughter of Len and Judy Sirois of Ash Drive and has lived in the ward for the past 15 years. She lives with her husband, Chris McCabe, and their four children, Allison, Ryan, Dara and Menna.

“Living in this community has been absolutely wonderful,’’ McCabe said in a news release. “I would like to represent the people of Ward 9 to ensure that our community moves forward in a positive direction. I have a strong work ethic and care deeply about doing what is best for our community.’’

McCabe has worked for the past 23 years with the Public Schools Branch as a school counsellor. She’s currently with Colonel Gray High School.

McCabe said she is a strong and active contributor to the community as a volunteer and mentor. She has a passion for youth and demonstrates this through her volunteer work, running a free camp for children in the summer.

McCabe was on the board of directors for the East Royalty kindergarten for 10 years, managed the P.E.I. provincial under-15 basketball team and is currently the academic adviser for the Charlottetown Islanders major junior hockey team.

McCabe said she was involved in bringing the role of the student resource officer to Island schools as well as being involved with the creation of the Healthy Me program, which is used across elementary schools in place of the former DARE program.

Ward 9 is currently represented by Coun. Melissa Hilton.
